RMWB - Truth and Reconciliation Challenge: MMEIP
As part of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s 7-week Truth and Reconciliation Challenge, week 3 is about Murdered or Missing and Exploited Indigenous Peoples (MMEIP).
Did you know that Indigenous women and girls in Canada are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing and are disproportionately affected by all forms of violence? The epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) is an international crisis happening in our own backyard.
Murdered or Missing and Exploited Indigenous Peoples (MMEIP) recognizes the importance of acknowledging the violence committed against Indigenous Peoples, including boys, men and gender diverse persons. They too are suffering, in danger, and their voices need to be included and heard.

Below, local MMEIP advocate Stephanie Harpe joined Janine Kruse, Manager, Indigenous and Rural Relations, in a frank discussion about this ongoing crisis and how it impacts people in our own community.
